The Welding Coordinator works with the production supervisor and project stakeholders to coordinate work packages and ensures project weld requirements are being met through our quality management systems meeting company quality assurance procedures and objectives. this includes ongoing assessment to ensure that it continues to meet the objectives of both the Seaspan Shipyards Quality Policy and Quality Management System manual and works to address identified deficiencies. This position reports to the Welding Superintendent
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 825 Admirals Road, Victoria.
What you'll do
Manages work packages into production ensuring all required information is available, Launch's and tracks progress of work orders for production.
Coordinates the creation of work packages by liaising with technical teams.
Accountable for the ensuring welding records are updated correctly and efficiently with in the welding team in accordance with company quality assurance procedures and objectives.
Manages company Weldeye software weld quality management module and provides additional support to the maintenance of welder qualification and prolongation through Weldeye software.
Coordinate's customer hold points, inspections, ITP plans etc to progress and complete OQE data/ weld traceability to the requirements of company quality assurance processes.
Monitors work progress for compliance to welding requirements and escalates issues to the production supervisor.
Coordinates deviations from work to ensure efficient completion (i.e., repair of welds, technical errors)
Assists the quality assurance team to continuously improve program/project specific documented processes and procedures.
Coordinates technical review meetings of welding requirements and ITP with Production Supervisor and other key stakeholders where required.
Performs additional duties as assigned in accordance with job description.
What you'll bring
Education and Experience
Post-secondary education in Quality Management Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
CWB CSA 47.1 Welding supervisor certification is an asset.
Shipbuilding experience is an asset.
Previous experience working in or closely with the welding trades.
IIW/IWS qualification is an asset.
Minimum 5 years' experience is preferred.
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

Knowledge of the requirements of CSA and international welding standards.
Knowledge of VSL Quality Assurance policies and procedures is an asset.
Written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
Experience in using WeldEye software is an asset.

The estimated salary for this position is $81,000 - $99,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
