Managing Consultant, Environmental Compliance (Senior Level) (Project Management)
ERM is seeking a motivated Environmental Compliance Consultant with a strong background in operational permitting to join our consulting team in Toronto, ON. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the compliance management team by conducting air quality modelling and permitting applications for Ontario-based projects and supporting emissions reporting needs for GHGs and NPRI. The role will also include developing environmental management plans (for spills, wastes, annual reporting, legal registers) to support compliance management for various Clients. The successful candidate will work on a variety of interesting technical projects for clients in the oil & gas, energy, and mining sectors throughout Canada, with increasing responsibility for task/project management duties. Strong writing and communication skills are also an integral component to this position. With annual global sales in excess of $50 million, ERM's Air Quality & Climate Change service area is one of the largest among its peers in our industry and is steadily growing at a double-digit pace. In North America alone, ERM has more than 300 dedicated air quality and climate change professionals assisting clients with projects as diverse as developing responses to emerging Low Carbon Fuel Standards, to leading complex capital projects through the many hurdles associated with the NSR permitting program. The Air Quality Team has strong links to ERM's Compliance and Management System support team which is responsible for managing Clients' compliance needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct assessments of air permitting requirements (desktop and Onsite).
Develop air permit applications for clients in Ontario through either EASR registrations or Environmental Compliance Approval applications.
Conduct air quality dispersion modelling using CALPUFF and AERMOD.
Conduct air quality analyses, assess regulatory compliance, and perform regulatory applicability evaluations.
Conduct meteorology and air quality field work including installation of meteorological and air quality instrumentation.
Interact with local regulators to steward permit application review and issuance.
Prepare emission inventory and NPRI reports; quantify air pollutant emissions and impacts.
Implement climate change projects, such as greenhouse gas inventories, emission reductions, energy efficiency, public disclosure and verification.
Write air quality, waste, spill, or environmental management and monitoring plans.
Prepare recommendations and reporting of results.
Perform multiple tasks within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
Interact and maintain successful relationships with clients, ERM employees, and subcontractors.
REQUIREMENTS:
BSc in environmental engineering, atmospheric science or related degree.
Professional Engineer designation in Ontario.
5 to 8 years of direct consulting or industry.
Experience installing and maintaining air quality instrumentation.
Demonstrated understanding of air emissions and emission reporting processes.
Strong hands-on spreadsheet and database comprehension.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.
Bilingual (French) preferred.
