Intern, Electrical Planning (8 Months) (Finance)
Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The position of Intern, Electrical Planning reports to the Detail Planning Supervisor in Production Support. This role will support the production planning teams during the ship construction and systems commissioning process. It is expected that the intern will be responsible for developing and maintaining detailed plans to help sequence work in support of turning on systems.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you'll do
- Review drawings.
- Understand bill of materials.
- Understand and apply applicable run rules for material availability.
- Understand production schedules sequence work within planned activity windows.
- Review and maintains data in ERP and document control systems.
- Liaise with various stakeholders (Engineering, Production support, Operations) when required.
- Assist the team in maintenance of the electrical planning databases and dashboard.
- Coordinate trade input into work packages and sequencing to reflect preferred production methods and processes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What you'll bring
- Enrolled in an 2nd or 3rd year Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering or other similar Engineering degree program. Interested students should have a passion for shipbuilding and be interested in implementing Naval Architecture concepts within a production environment. Students must be comfortable working in a heavy industrial setting.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience in utilizing ERP software tools for material and inventory planning preferred.
- Experience in running python scripts and task automation preferred.
- Working knowledge of CAD software suite and document control systems and databases (Navisworks, Ship Constructor and AutoCAD preferred).
- Ability to apply inventory and material management advanced practices.
- Knowledge of document control systems and databases.
- Ability to work well independently with limited direction and in a team environment.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly.
- Time management skills and ability to work on several issues simultaneously.
- Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to improve production processes.
- Attention to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
