Field Biologist (Field Based) (R&D)
ERM is hiring a Field Biologist to conduct Fisheries surveys in Yellowknife, Canada. Successful candidates must be flexible and responsive to a challenging and changing work environment where schedules, site locations, and tasks fluctuate according to the needs of the project. The role of a Fisheries Field Biologist requires technical skills, as well as strong organizational and communication skills. This role will require remote work based at field sites involving 10–12-hour days for up to 23 days at a time and time off between field trips, with the duration of the contract being 14 weeks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Field biologist position to conduct surveys across Northwest Territories.
Work locations are remote and require field biologist to work independently or as part of a team. Other special status species surveys and monitoring may be required, based on available skills.
Fisheries data collection.
Navigating remote locations with GPS, compass, and maps.
Daily reporting and survey report compilation.
Other duties as assigned or required.
Compliance with ERM's rigorous health and safety programs.
REQUIREMENTS:
Technical Diploma or Bachelors in Science, Environmental Biology, or related field preferred.
10+ years of Field Biology experience.
Familiarity with the following protocols: electrofishing, gillnetting, seining, trap netting, angling for large and small bodied fish in fluvial and lacustrine environments.
Familiarity with fish habitat survey protocols and general fish identification skills required.
Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain.
Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
Working knowledge of GPS technologies and map interpretation skills.
Effective communication, time management, and organization skills.
Experience recording/writing detailed technical data.
Able to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Willingness to travel to sites that require overnight stays, as needed, to support fieldwork at sites outside of immediate vicinity.
Valid driver's license and good driving record.
Valid First Aid Certificate.
