Quality Control Technician II - Electrical (Finance)
The Quality Control (QC) Technician is responsible for in process and formal inspections for all specific trade systems at all stages of construction. The role is responsible to ensure specifications, class rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions are implemented at each stage of construction. The QC Technician develops the Inspection and Test Plan for the specific trade area or system. This role performs daily in process quality control inspections to identify nonconformities with contract requirements, develops corrective actions and communicates requirements to shop personnel. The QC Technician also attends formal inspections with owners and regulatory bodies.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you'll do
Reviews specifications, class rules, work instructions and SOPs to determine trade specific quality requirements for each contract.
Develops new construction and repair projects' Inspection and Test Plans for trade specific systems. Ensures plans are implemented in accordance with contract requirements.
Performs daily in-process quality inspections of trade specific work. Documents and communicates results to responsible supervisors.
Performs receiving inspection of components, mechanical and electrical systems, steel, and pipe.
Attends formal inspections with customers and regulatory bodies. Documents all defects, nonconformities and provides results to responsible supervisors and the QC/QA Department.
Works with trade and area supervisors to improve in-process quality.
Performs gap analyses of work instructions and SOPs for trade specific systems. Communicates results to respective area and assists in developing and modifying procedures, work instructions and forms as required.
Maintains quality files for trade specific area.
Performs periodic audits of trade specific suppliers to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
Perform accuracy control activities for new construction and repair projects at Seaspan Shipyards.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
What you'll bring
Post Secondary Diploma in relevant discipline (Marine, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred).
5-8 years experience in the trade specific area (e.g. Structure, Outfit, Mechanical and Piping Systems, Electrical System, Painting, Welding, NDT etc.), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Red Seal Trades Certificates required as applicable.
Understanding of the fabrication, installation, commissioning and testing of trade specific systems.
Working knowledge of quality control and inspection procedures.
Ability to develop Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
Technical skills including an understanding of quality techniques and their application to shipbuilding.
Ability to read material test report and understand chemical / physical requirements for steel.
Technical understanding of NDT techniques and their application to meet contract, regulatory and statutory requirements for trade specific systems.
Communication skills and customer service focus.
Technical writing skills.
Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and integrity.
Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office (e.g. Outlook / Word / Excel / PowerPoint / Visio / SharePoint).
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve.
Good judgment and reasoning skills.
Ability to work with limited direction.

The estimated salary for this position is $82,700 - $99,200. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
