The Mechanical Detail Designer III is responsible for completing Mechanical and Piping design assignments on new construction and repair projects at Vancouver Shipyards, with minimal (or no) supervision from the Lead or more experienced designers. Under the direction of the Manager, Mechanical Detail Design, and the coordination of the team Lead, the Mechanical Detail Designer III participates in all phases of new construction design projects. The designer develops and delivers discipline-specific system 3D Model and Production Information drawings, by assisting the lead or senior designer to take technically feasible integration decisions and/or by collaborating with the System Responsible Engineer to resolve design issues.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you'll do
Develops and delivers, with minimal (or no) support, discipline-specific 3D Modelling (Cadmatic) and Production Information drawings.
Makes integration decisions and develops design.
Prepares Production Information drawings for all Stages of Construction.
Collaborates with System Responsible Engineer to resolve design issues.
Provides technical support to production.
Maintains stock catalogue with constant communication with procurement and material management.
Develops and communicates plan and budget for delivering work on time and monitors the cost and resources.
Supports the Lead by providing guidance to other less experienced designers or subcontractors in the discipline's engineering/design area.
Supports production outputs to ensure the resulting work packages for manufacturing are in alignment with VSY standards and processes.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
What you'll bring
Associate Design degree, diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Mechanical Engineering and Detail Design
4 - 6 years of relevant experience in Detailed Design in Manufacturing/Heavy Industries
Knowledge of marine mechanical design, including detailed knowledge of shipbuilding and production best practices.
Ability to propose and develop solutions to complex technical problems with minimal support.
Knowledge of Cadmatic Hull, 3D Plant modeler and Eshare is an asset.
Knowledge of AutoCAD software and document control systems.
Knowledge of National Shipbuilding Strategy program is an asset.
Knowledge of Rhino, NavisWorks and SharePoint is an asset
Ability to communicate at various levels; written, verbal and presentation skills.
Technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
Organizational skills including the ability to maintain organized in a changing environment, multi-task and establish priorities.
Interpersonal skills.

The estimated salary for this position is $87,000 - $104,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
