The Structural Detail Designer III is responsible for 3D modeling and producing adequate Production Drawings to support production design at Vancouver Shipyards (VSY) in North Vancouver. The Structural Detail Designer III will ensure that Detail Design 3D Model and Production Drawings are generated and in accordance with VSY's standards, quality, and engineering processes. This role will be responsible for 3D modeling, production design, drawing generation and implementation of lessons learned. Incumbent will also be responsible for actively engaging in 3D Model and Drawing Reviews. These responsibilities ensure that the goals and objectives of the Structural Detail Design Department are accomplished within the prescribed plans, schedules, and budgets. This role requires interaction across departments at multiple levels internally and externally. It will be common for the Structural Detail Designer III to be working and supporting functional engineering, detail design, planning, production and with suppliers.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you'll do
Creates and updates, the 3D design model content in assigned areas of Structural design within project schedule and budget, and in line with the design input: basic and functional design documents, class society rules and regulations, flag rules and company and international standards.
Prepare Structural Manufacturing Information for all Stages of Construction.
Liaise with functional engineering to resolve all outstanding design issues.
Provide technical support and resolution for structural issues from design to fabrication.
Communicate and report the plan and budget for delivering the work on time to team lead.
Support production outputs to ensure the resulting work packages for manufacturing are in alignment with VSY standards and processes.
Develops and/or reviews design drawings for fisheries, icebreaking, and naval replenishment vessels in order to achieve customer, Classification Society and regulatory approval.
Supports the Manager, Structural Detail Design by providing guidance to other junior engineers, designers, or subcontractors in the areas of structural engineering and design
What you'll bring
Associate Design degree, diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Structural Engineering and Detail Design
4-6 years of experience in Detailed Design in Manufacturing/Heavy Industries.
Knowledge of marine structural design, including detailed knowledge of shipbuilding and production best practices.
Ability to propose and develop solutions to complex technical problems with minimal support.
Knowledge of Cadmatic Hull, 3D Plant modeler and Eshare is an asset.
Knowledge of AutoCAD software and document control systems.
Knowledge of National Shipbuilding Strategy program is an asset.
Knowledge of Rhino, NavisWorks and SharePoint is an asset
Ability to communicate at various levels; written, verbal and presentation skills.
Technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
Organizational skills including the ability to maintain organized in a changing environment, multi-task and establish priorities.
Interpersonal skills.

The estimated salary for this position is $87,000 - $104,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
